How To Take Care of your Action Figures
We’ve said it once, we’ll say it again, toys are more than just toys. They are a quick trip to our childhood and they are potential investments. If this is how you feel when you look at those Marvel Funko’s or GI Joe action figures then taking care of your collectibles should come second nature to you. You need to do more than dust or clean them once in a while to ensure they are in tip-top condition. If you want your memorabilia to have the same quality as when you first bought them.
Admittedly, we’re guilty of neglecting our toys as well. Once we think they are tucked away nicely sometimes it may take us years to check on them. Once we do decide to open them and check sometimes there is an oily substance around them. This may potentially be harmful to your action figures. We recommend thorough cleaning at least once a year and while you are at it make sure you are doing it correctly.
Here are some useful tips:
1. Keep Away from Sunlight
Direct sunlight can cause the plastic or the paint of the action figures to peel. Keep your collection away from windows as much as possible.
2. Remove Dust Regularly
If it’s a relatively new action figure, set a schedule to dust and clean your action figures. Doing it once a month is a good start. Makeup brushes are great to remove the dust and other impurities. For delicate parts of the action figure, you may use a canned air duster.
3. Keep them at the Right Temperature
Is that inside a box in the attic? We reckon, no. Extreme temperatures are not ideal for your toys. These figures, if you intend for them to last decades should be kept at room temperature or between 55-70 degrees Fahrenheit.
If your action figures are years even decades old, restoring them would be the best step to restore them to their old glory. Perhaps you bought them online or forgot about them for decades and decided to revisit your box of old gems in the attic. Here are some extra steps to consider to restore your old toys.
4. Washing
Be mindful of stickers or metals when you decide to wash your action figures. A toothbrush is ideal for washing these figures as well as warm water. An antibacterial detergent would also work well. This is something you can do once a year.
5. Dry Overnight
Washing toys may cause water to stick in the crevices of your toys. Needless to say, these may cause some damage to your toys. After wiping with a cloth make sure to dry them overnight.
Make sure your action figures have premium protection
