At the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokemon World Championships in San Francisco on August 31, 2026, the Pokemon Company revealed a brand-new series logo called ex star, confirmed as the series following the current Mega series.
The same reveal showed Mega Lucario Z ex alongside four new Mega Attack Rare cards: Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Greninja ex, Mega Rayquaza ex, and Mega Zygarde ex.
It is important to be precise about what is actually confirmed here: a Japanese set, Aura Seeker, has a confirmed November 27, 2026 release date in Japan specifically, headlined by Mega Lucario Z ex. There is no confirmed English or North American release date as of this writing.
This guide separates what is locked in from what remains genuinely unknown, rather than guessing at a Western release timeline.
The reveal introduced the ex star series name and showed Mega Lucario Z ex as its headline card, alongside four Mega Attack Rare cards spotlighting Darkrai, Greninja, Rayquaza, and Zygarde. This marks the first confirmed look at what follows the current Mega Evolution series.
Mega Lucario Z ex is confirmed as a Stage 1 Pokemon evolving from Riolu, featuring an ability called Aura Seeker that lets you search your deck for a Supporter card once per turn.
Aura Seeker, the Japanese set headlining Mega Lucario Z ex, has a confirmed release date of November 27, 2026 in Japan specifically. This set carries the Japanese set code M7 and debuts the first-ever Z Mega Evolutions as a card type.
This date is specific to the Japanese market; it is not an English or North American release date, a distinction worth keeping clear given how often Japanese set dates get mistakenly treated as the global release.
As of this writing, there is no officially confirmed English-language release date for Aura Seeker or the broader ex star series. Historically, Japanese Mega-series sets have arrived in English translation roughly two to three months after their Japanese debut, which would point toward early 2027 for an English equivalent, but that is an estimate, not a confirmed date.
Treat any specific English release date you see elsewhere as speculation until the Pokemon Company issues an official announcement.
Mega Attack Rare, abbreviated MA, is confirmed as a new rarity tier debuting alongside the ex star series, shown through Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Greninja ex, Mega Rayquaza ex, and Mega Zygarde ex at the same reveal. Beyond these four reveals, the full rarity's visual treatment and broader card list remain unconfirmed.
This is a genuinely new rarity tier rather than a rename of an existing one, which makes it worth watching for official set-list confirmation as Aura Seeker's release approaches.
With no confirmed English release date, the honest move is tracking official announcements rather than preordering based on speculative timelines circulating online. Treat any site claiming a specific English date for Aura Seeker or the ex star series with appropriate skepticism until the Pokemon Company confirms it directly.
In the meantime, existing Mega Lucario ex cards from the current Mega Evolution series remain the only confirmed, purchasable Mega Lucario-related cards.
Whatever the eventual English release date turns out to be, the protection and display habits that work for current Mega Lucario ex cards will apply identically to Mega Lucario Z ex once it actually arrives. There is no need to wait on specialized supplies.
Building good habits now, like sleeving current Mega Lucario ex cards with EVORETRO's Perfect Fit Sleeves and keeping them organized in a 9-Pocket Zip-Up Trading Card Binder, sets you up well for whatever the ex star series eventually brings.
The five cards shown at the August 31, 2026 reveal are the only ex star series cards officially confirmed as of this writing; any broader card list, set checklist, or additional reveals circulating online should be treated as fan speculation until the Pokemon Company confirms them directly.
This distinction matters most in the months leading up to a set's actual release, when speculation volume tends to increase well ahead of any new official information.
